III. Setting Up Your Blog

To begin setting up your auto blog you will need to sign into the cPanel of your domain. Your cPanel is where you can track how many visitors you get, create email accounts and most importantly install Wordpress which is the platform you will need for your auto blog.
To login in to your cPanel enter the address below into your internet browser (Internet Explorer, Firefox, etc). Where it says “yourwebsitename” replace this with the domain name you registered earlier with HostGator.
http://www.yourwebsitename.com/cpanel

a. Installing Wordpress

Once you have logged into your cPanel you should see a page very similar to the one below.

If you scroll down on this page you will come across a box with the title Software / Services.
Click Fantastico De Luxe, the option with a smiley face above it.

You should now be on the page below. If you look down the left hand side you will see Blogs and underneath Wordpress. Click Wordpress.

On this screen you want to choose the New Installation option.

Next you will be asked to fill in some details.
Installation on domain: This should already have your website name on it.
Install in directory: You can leave this empty.
Administrator-username: Create a username. You will use this to sign into your blog later.
Password: This password goes along with the username above. So choose something you can remember. You may want to write both these down.
Admin nickname: You can leave this empty.
Admin e-mail: Enter an email address you use. Whenever someone comments on your blog you will be contacted at this address should you choose to be later one.
Site name: Enter the name of your website here, for example - My Hypnosis Website.
Description: Again you can leave this blank.

Once you have finished entering your details press Install Wordpress to be taken to the next page. Here you can simply click Finish installation.

You have now successfully installed Wordpress to your hosting package. On the confirmation page you will be given an address to access your blogs admin area. It will look similar to the address below.

b. Choosing and Installing a Theme

One of the great things about Wordpress are the number of free add-ons available. This includes themes and plugins. Right now though we’re going to focus on the theme of your auto blog. A theme creates the visual appearance of your website. It doesn’t have to look flashy, all you need is a theme that is clear and easy to navigate.
For the purposes of your auto blog I would recommend that you download a free Wordpress theme from the address below.
http://www.themesbase.com/?author=JakeRhodes
These are a selection of Wordpress themes that I’ve designed myself. They might not be the prettiest available but I they are the easiest use in in creating an auto blog. I will be using one of these themes in my following examples.
Choose the one you like the most and left-click the blue download button underneath it. From the options you are given choose Save File to save the zip file to your computer. It’s a good idea to save the theme to you’re My Documents as you will need to find this file easily later.

If you’re not already logged into your Wordpress admin area log in now using the address below and the username/password combination you set yourself earlier.

http://www.YOURDOMAIN.com/wp-admin/
Once you’ve logged in to Wordpress you should see a screen similar to the one below. On the left hand side of the page you will see a list of options. To begin with click the Appearance option.

Now you will be taken to a new page with the title Manage Themes. Towards the top right-hand corner of this page will be a rounded grey button that says Install Themes. Click this and again you will be taken to a new page.

wordpress-05

Underneath the title of this page (Install Themes) you should see a horizontal list of links than reads:
Search | Upload | Featured | Newest | Recently Updated
Click on Upload to be taken to the next page.

wordpress-06

Once you have clicked upload you will notice an empty white box with a grey button next to it that says Browse…Click this and a box will pop up. This should show you the contents of your hard drive.
Search for the folder in which you saved your Theme from earlier on and select it. Now click on Install Now.

wordpress-07

Once you have done that you will see this message…

As you can see above you are given three actions. Choose to Activate the Theme and you have now successfully installed your Wordpress Theme!
Now it’s onto the perhaps most important part of the guide.
